SPARE THE ROD: Bush gets the boot(The writer limbered up with some stretching, some deep knee bends and some power sarcasm. Finally, he was ready for his performance ...) President Bush was greeted at an Iraqi news conference over the weekend with a pair of shoes launched, one at a time, at his head, apparently a sign of disrespect in Iraq. As a result, some called by attack by shoe fitting. The shoe bomber, later identified by the Associated Press as Muntadar al-Zeidi, a correspondent for Al-Baghdadia television, had apparently not been tagged by security officials as an archenemy of the American president. Unfazed, Bush nevertheless admonished his host, Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki, to toe the line as far as peace in Iraq was concerned, keep the Iraqi people instep with the process and not allow his administration to flip flip on its position. Bush assured al-Maliki, however, that the attack did not upset him and that he didn't not feel as though the attacker was trying to moc him. As for the attacker, Bush simply shrugged and muttered, "What a heel."
