PENDLETON — A ceremony was conducted on March 18th to recognize the most recent graduates of the Pendleton Correctional Facility’s Inside Out Dad Program. The offenders completing the program are assigned to the Facility’s minimum security outside dormitory.
According to Facility Superintendent Brett Mize, the Inside Out Dad Program is one of the many innovative strategies developed and implemented by the National Fatherhood Initiative. During the ceremony the Unit’s Inside Out Dad coordinator and facilitator Counselor Sarah Peckham presented the offender graduates with certificates to demonstrate completion of the program which provides them with the tools and strategies for becoming better fathers and improving relationships with their children.
Superintendent Mize commends the offenders for their participation in this parenting program and praised the group for their continued participation in community service projects. “The offenders involved in this program recently made sixteen baby blankets that were donated to the “Wee Ones” Nursery Program at the Indiana Women’s Prison in Indianapolis,” stated Superintendent Mize.
“The Inside Out Dad Program has been a wonderful and encouraging initiative for the Indiana Department of Correction (IDOC),” stated IDOC Commissioner Edwin G. Buss. “Not only do the men gain more perspective and knowledge on fatherhood, but they also have opportunities to give back to the community.”
