Variety Global Business (VGB) Group, the China-based business with an interest in establishing a manufacturing and distribution center in Anderson, is headed to Washington, D.C. this week to solicit federal for the project. Pastor James Dixon, who has served as a community liaison for VGB, said company officials will spend Wednesday and Thursday in the capital, alongside economic development leaders from the city of Anderson. VGB, which produces "starchware," an environmentally friendly alternative to plastic foam products, such as Styrofoam, has expressed an interest in the former General Motors Corp. properties Plant 20 and Plant 9. Dixon said the VGB contingent will meet with Van Jones, appointed by President Obama as his "green czar." The administration's interest in so-called green jobs could bode well for VGB and for Anderson.
