UFC 100 Akiyama vs Belcher

After a few technical difficulties we're up and running for UFC 100.

First round of the opening bout is over with middleweights Yoshihiro Akiyama vs. Alan Belcher.

Nice back and forth action in that round and the second round looks to be more of the same early on.

Akiyama has side control on the ground, Belcher better show off that Brown Belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.

Good Ground N Pound from the UFC newcomer, Akiyama.
Belcher needs to get this back to a stand up fight or he's not gonna last much longer.

Belcher gets it back up at the 2 minute mark and scores with leg kicks.

Akiyama is looking gassed. Belcher should stay on the outside, keep the leg kick working and score points from the outside before trying to close in for the finish.

If Akiyama is tired then Belcher needs to push the pace and keep the newcomer breathing heavy.

Nice body shots and good kicks by Belcher.

But both guys are starting to run down. Hands are at the waists of both guys and neither is dancing around like they did at the start of the fight.

Even gassed both competitors are looking for a finish. Stiff shots with the fists are exchanged and Belcher just missed a head kick.

A little tumbling routine by "The Talent" and we're back on the feet.

Akiyama scores a takedown but can't hold down Belcher who gets to his feet.

The horn sounds as the fight has gone the distance.

Great way to start out this landmark show. A good back and forth fight that showed off both fighters endurance and striking skills.

And the decision goes to...Akiyama by split decision?

I'm not sure about that. Joe Rogan just said that Belcher got robbed and I agree.

I had Belcher winning all three rounds.

But the judges that count had Akiyama winning the split decision (30-27, 29-28) over Belcher (29-28).

Check back after the next fight for my review on Michael Bisping vs. Dan Henderson.

We'll talk to you then.
